You already have what you need.

Decades of stories. Hard-won wisdom. Moments that shaped you—the ones you talk about, and the ones you’ve never told anyone.

This isn’t about learning to paint or becoming an artist. It’s about excavating what’s already inside you and transforming it into something visible, tangible, and real.

In four days, you’ll create your first complete visual journal spread—a page in the sacred text of your own life. No artistic experience needed. Just willingness to show up.

Why This Work. Why Now.

In the first half of life, we build. Career, family, identity. We answer the world’s questions: Who do you belong to? What do you do? What have you achieved?

The second half asks different questions. Deeper ones. What has all this meant? What do I know now that I couldn’t have known then? What wants to be remembered—and what’s ready to be released?

This is the work of meaning-making. And it doesn’t happen in your head. It happens in your hands.

The Visual Journaler™ method gives form to what words alone can’t hold. When you layer paint over your own writing, when you place an image that chose you onto a page you’ve prepared, when you step back and witness what emerged—you’re not making art. You’re excavating wisdom.

Your Book of Wisdom becomes a sacred text. Not for anyone else. For you. Proof that your stories matter. That your life has meaning. That you are still becoming.

This Work is For You If...

Your Four-Day Journey

Four days. Four sessions. Each one builds on the last. By Day 4, you'll have moved through the complete cycle and hold a finished spread in your hands.

Day 1
The Foundations
We begin with writing—excavating what's ready to emerge. Then we cover it with gesso and paint, building the ground your wisdom will grow from.
Day 2
Finding Voice
Your focal image finds its place. Collage elements create context. Paint and mediums integrate the layers. Your spread begins to speak to you.
Day 3
The Art of the Pause
We stop adding and start receiving. Through guided gazing and the Four Levels framework, you'll learn to read the wisdom your hands have created.
Day 4
Embodiment
The crown layer captures what you've discovered—a touchstone for the wisdom unearthed through your hands as embodiment follows.

Before We Begin: On March 10, you’ll receive access to the digital toolkit “Create Your Book of Wisdom,” which has everything you need: getting started, a guided meditation, a supply list, a collage kit, and two worksheets, the Story Palette worksheet and the Reading Your Spread worksheet.

Hi, I'm Terri Altschul

I’m a depth coach and the creator of The Visual Journaler™ method. For over a decade, I’ve been helping women in the second half of life excavate their stories and transform them into wisdom they can hold.

This work changed my life. It gave me a way to process what words alone couldn’t hold—and it connected me to parts of myself I’d forgotten existed.

I created this free program because I believe every woman deserves to experience what it feels like to hold her own wisdom in her hands. No artistic skill required. Just willingness to show up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Scrapbooking preserves memories—it documents what happened. A Book of Wisdom excavates meaning—it asks what your experiences have taught you. You won't be arranging photos chronologically or decorating pages to look pretty. You'll be layering paint over your own writing, placing images that chose you, and discovering what emerges when you stop trying to capture the past and start listening to what it wants to tell you. These pages can be raw, messy, imperfect—that's often where the deepest wisdom lives. This is contemplative practice, not craft project.

Yes. You'll be scraping paint, tearing paper, and working with your hands—but there's no talent test, no 'right way' to do it. The art emerges through the process, not through technical ability. If you can spread gesso with an old credit card, you can do this work.

Perfect. This program is designed as an introduction to The Visual Journaler™ method. You'll learn the basics through doing—with me guiding you step by step. By Day 4, you'll have a completed spread and the confidence to continue on your own.

All sessions will be recorded and available in the Wisdom Keepers Community for 30 days. That said, the live experience is where the magic happens—working alongside others, being guided in real time. I encourage you to protect those four days if at all possible.

Ideally, a mixed-media journal (at least 140lb paper), white gesso, 2-3 acrylic paint colors you're drawn to, plus black, an old credit card or palette knife for scraping, baby wipes, glue stick or gel medium, scissors, and a black fine-tip pen. For collage: a focal image, a few supporting paper pieces, and optionally alphabet stamps or letter stickers for your crown layer. You'll receive a complete supply guide when you join.

Practically, use what you have and what you're willing to invest in.

During the first call, we'll talk about materials. I suggest specific materials that work with acrylic paints because of how they interact when layered. Water-based products can be used, but the drying and layering process will differ from what I demonstrate.

Use what you have. Kids' craft paints work. Magazine pages work. The only essentials are a journal, gesso, a couple of paint colors, and something to glue with. The wisdom you're excavating matters far more than any supply list.

When you join, you'll receive a curated collection of printable images—focal images, supporting collage pieces, and stencil patterns—designed specifically for this program.

You can use these, supplement with your own found images from magazines or old books, or mix both. The kit gives you a starting point, so you don't have to search for materials before Day 1.

Not at all. I provide a color palette so you can follow along exactly if you want to, but you're welcome to choose colors that resonate with your own story. One warm, one cool, and you're set.

It's our free online home—off social media, away from the noise. A gathering place for women using creative practice to navigate the second half of life. No algorithms, no ads, no distractions. Just a real connection.

You'll have your completed spread, the skills to continue, and ongoing access to the Wisdom Keepers Community. If you want to go deeper, I'll share information about my paid programs—but your community membership continues regardless of whether you ever purchase anything.

It's really free. The "catch" is that I hope you'll fall in love with this practice and want to keep doing it. I have paid programs for those who want to go deeper—but there's no obligation, no pressure, and no bait-and-switch. This is a genuine, complete experience.

Welcome to The Wisdom Keepers Community! On March 10th, the digital toolkit will be released and you'll have everything you need to prepare for the program: a supply list, your Story Palette worksheet, Reading Your Spread worksheet, and the Collage Kit. Allow about an hour before Day 1 to review the prep materials and gather your supplies. I'll send reminders as we approach our start date.

This program runs in cohorts a few times a year. You can register anytime during an open cohort—join us for the live sessions, or catch the recordings if you come in later. You'll have access to the Digital Toolkit and session recordings through the cohort end date, with plenty of time to complete everything and download what you want to keep. After the cohort closes, the materials reset for the next group, but you keep your community membership and can continue sharing your work in Reflections & Questions.
