Something shifts in the second half of life. The questions change. The hustle that once drove you starts to feel hollow. You’ve built a career, raised a family, and done what was expected of you. And now—in the quiet moments—you’re asking: What was it all for? Who am I now? What’s still waiting to be lived?

These aren’t questions you can answer by thinking harder. They ask something different: slowness, reflection, a willingness to sit with what you don’t yet know.

Winter understands this.

Winter is the season of going inward. Of rest that isn’t laziness but necessity. Of letting the dark do its work—composting what’s finished, germinating what’s next.

If you’re in the second half of life, you’re in a kind of winter too. Not an ending, but a turning. A threshold between who you’ve been and who you’re still becoming.

The Winter Turning is a companion for this passage. It weaves together Celtic seasonal wisdom, Jungian depth psychology, and Visual Journaler™ practice—giving you a path through the darkest quarter that honors where you actually are.

This isn’t about productivity or self-improvement. It’s about presence. About creating something beautiful while you listen for what’s stirring beneath the surface.

How it works: The Winter Turning is a winter Visual Journaler™ program—not a PDF, not a workbook. You’ll move through a beautifully designed studio program at your own pace, with teaching, audio meditations, and creative invitations woven together. Printable journal pages, a curated image collection, and community access are all embedded inside. No jumping between platforms or hunting for downloads. Everything you need is in one place.

The Wisdom Beneath

There are thousands of journals out there. Gratitude journals. Goal-setting journals. Art journals filled with prompts for pretty pages.

This isn’t one of those.

The Winter Turning is built on something older: the Celtic wheel of the year—a map our ancestors used to align their lives with the turning of the seasons. They understood what we’ve forgotten: we are not separate from nature. Her rhythms are our rhythms.

Winter has a purpose. It’s not empty space between the holidays and spring. It’s the season of deep rest, composting, and germination. The dark is where seeds split open. Where dreams arrive. Where the questions you’ve been carrying can finally settle.

You don’t have to figure everything out at once.

That’s the gift of following the wheel. Each season has its own work. Winter’s work is rest, reflection, and tending the inner flame. Spring will ask something different. But not yet.

When you align with the energy of the season—instead of pushing against it—you’re supported by something larger than your own effort. The natural world is doing this work alongside you.

This journal gives you a path through winter: Celtic wisdom for the turning points, Jungian depth for the inner work, and visual practice to make it real on the page.

You don’t need another journal that asks you to produce. You need one that gives you permission to go slow, go deep, and trust what’s growing in the dark.

The Journey

Three Movements Through Winter's Arc

The psychological arc of winter moves from descent, through rest in the depths, to the first stirrings
of what wants to emerge. These three phases structure our journey together.

The Descent
December - January
The Winter Solstice marks the longest night—the invitation to go down and in. We explore the Cailleach, the night sea journey, and what it means to rest in the belly of the whale.
The Deep Rest
January - February
The 40 days between Solstice and Imbolc are a sacred time. We tend the inner flame, do life review, work with dreams, and trust the composting happening in the dark.
First Stirrings
February - March
Imbolc marks the quickening—Brigid's fire, the first signs of life returning. We sense what's ready to emerge and prepare to cross the threshold into spring.

“One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.”

–Carl Jung

A Winter Retreat: As the Light Returns

Date to be added

At Imbolc, the light begins to return. We gather—not to leave the dark behind, but to notice what made it through. What’s still alive. What’s ready to stir.

There’s a lot of uncertainty in the world right now. A lot of fear. The old maps aren’t working. In times like these, we need more than content—we need container. We need witness. We need the steadying presence of others doing the same work.

This isn’t a webinar. It’s a gathering for what’s emerging.

We’ll open with meditation. We’ll explore what’s stirring after the deep rest—the first signs of life returning. We’ll sit with reflection questions. And we’ll make art together, hands moving while hope takes shape.

Who This is For

Everything You Need For Winter

The Winter Turning brings together a winter Visual Journaler™ program, printable journal pages, guided audio meditations, a curated image collection, a live winter retreat in January, and access to a community of women doing this same work—all in one experience.

Move through at your own pace. Return to sections as the season unfolds. Join us as the light returns. Share your reflections with women who understand. This is a complete journey, not a taste.

If you’ve been waiting for permission to slow down, to go inward, to honor the season you’re actually in—this is it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Visual Journaler™ practice isn't about making art—it's about making meaning. You'll glue images, write words, and add color if you want. There's no skill required, no wrong way to do it. If you can use scissors and a glue stick, you can do this.

A journal (or print the one we provide), scissors, glue stick, and pens. That's it. If you want to add paint, markers, or other materials, you can—but it's not required. We give you a curated image collection so you don't have to hunt for images.

That's up to you. Some women spend 20 minutes with a lesson. Some spend an hour on a single page. The program is self-paced, and you have lifetime access. Winter doesn't rush—and neither should you.

The retreat will be recorded. You'll have access to the replay. But if you can join live, I encourage it—there's something about being in the room together that a recording can't replicate.

There's no behind. The program is yours forever. Some women move through it in a few weeks. Some return to it year after year. Go at the pace that serves you.

The Winter Turning draws on seasonal wisdom (the Celtic wheel of the year) and depth psychology (Jungian concepts)—but it's not affiliated with any religion. Women of all backgrounds and beliefs have found it meaningful. Take what resonates. Leave what doesn't.

You'll get immediate access to everything—the program, the printable journal, the image collection, the audio meditations, and the community. You can start right away or wait until you're ready.

No. The printable journal is there if you want it—especially if you don't have a journal book. But many women use their own journals and follow along with the program. Use whatever setup works for you.

Due to the digital nature of this program and immediate access to all materials, refunds are not offered. If you have questions before purchasing, email me at terri@thevisualjournaler.com, and I'm happy to help you decide if this is right for you.

Yes. The program walks you through everything. You don't need prior experience with journaling, visual art, or depth work. You just need a willingness to slow down and show up for yourself.
