map no. 1
For the woman in the second half of life, ready to live in ever-widening circles — holding all she’s become while remaining fluid enough to become what’s next.
You’ve spent decades learning how to show up for others. How to hold what needs holding. How to navigate complexity with grace. You’ve been accumulating wisdom with every choice, every challenge, every season you’ve weathered. You’re formidable at it.
But something is waiting to be released.
All that wisdom, all that strength, all that fierce capability you’ve been directing outward? It’s ready to serve you now in a completely different way. Not just as the woman who holds things together, but as the woman who can hold multiple ways of being without losing her center.
The threshold you’re standing in holds both grief and excitement — grief for the structures that served you but are now too small, excitement for the ever-widening circles calling you forward.
You don’t have to choose one version of yourself anymore. You don’t have to perform consistency.
This is not confusion.
This is not restlessness without reason.
This is a threshold.
Every woman who has ever stood where you are standing now — between who she was and who she is becoming, in the uncomfortable in-between, in the not-yet-knowing — she has been in the most alive moment of her life. Not despite the uncertainty. Because of it.
You are not lost. You are crossing.
Not approaching it and not looking back at it. You are inside it — in the in-between, in the place where the old instructions have stopped working, and the new ones have not yet arrived.
The disorientation, the not-yet-knowing — this is not a problem to be managed. It is the threshold itself.
This practice was made for this moment. Not to rush you through it. To help you inhabit it fully and make something true from it.
This is not an art class. It is not a journaling practice. It is mixed media inner work — a way of excavating what you already know through image, the way symbols work, the way layers reveal what words cannot yet reach.
Not a journal page. Not a scrapbook. A layered, mixed-media spread in your Book of Wisdom that holds what words alone cannot hold — the color of the in-between, the texture of what is loosening, the first visible shape of what is forming.
What lands on your page will be yours alone — drawn from your own inner landscape, not a copy of anyone else’s crossing.
Yours. Finished. Real.
Your spread is not a single image. It is a landscape — a terrain you move through.
Each movement occupies its own ground, its own color, its own truth.
9 chapters. 18 lessons. 5 guided journal sessions
Also includes a downloadable supplies list, color palette, collage pack, and Wisdom Card — everything you need to begin.
Crossing the Threshold is a single, continuous journey — designed to be moved through the way you move through a piece of music.
Everything you need is embedded in a beautiful, easy-to-follow, scrolling structure that you can return to at any time, on any device.
I am a coach and practitioner of the sovereignty of becoming — working with women in the second half of life at the exact moment when everything they’ve lived is ready to be seen.
For over a decade I’ve been watching what happens when a woman stops trying to think her way through a threshold and starts making it visible instead. Through layered mixed media. Through color and image and symbol. Through the kind of depth practice that works the way the psyche actually works — not through analysis, but through excavation.
This work changed my life first. It gave me a way to move through what words alone couldn’t hold — and it revealed things I didn’t know I knew.
I created Crossing the Threshold because the threshold moment is where every woman I have ever worked with eventually arrives. And it deserves more than being rushed through.
No artistic skill required. Just willingness to enter the crossing.
— Terri Altschul, The Visual Journaler™
Not at all. Crossing the Threshold is a mixed-media art practice, not an art class. The Practice Cards and progression guidance give your hands what they need. What matters is your willingness to be present — not your skill level.
Your spread will be entirely your own. The audio guidance and progression support are designed to draw out what's arising in you — not to lead you toward Terri's spread. You'll see Terri's process as a model for how to move, not what to make. What lands on your page will come from your own inner landscape. No two spreads from this map have ever looked the same.
A mixed-media journal or book with mixed media paper to — acrylics, mediums, collage, and mark-making. Basic supplies: acrylic paint, Gesso, Matte Medium, sponge brush, credit card for scraping, collage materials (paper, images, found objects), and a mark-making tool. A comprehensive supplist and downloadable collage materials are included inside the Map.
This is yours to move through at your own pace. Some women complete their spread in a single afternoon. Others return to it across several sessions. There is no timeline. The practice meets you where you are.

Not given to you. Not taught to you. Created by you — excavated layer by layer, carried forward in your own hands.
Your fragmented thoughts and emotions are actually speaking a sacred language that you can learn to read. This free micro-class reveals why traditional approaches to ‘getting it together’ often miss the deeper wisdom your scattered pieces are trying to show you.
